The Journey

Your Abba, Father and What That Means

I'm writing this as I am still in awe of how God meets us exactly where we need it. I just completed a powerful weekend conference at my church that left me actually physically sore from the amount of praise and worship that I was able to take part in. A shout out to the BIG Ladies Club Conference, it truly was a life-changing event.

I went into the conference already walking in what I thought was freedom. Not too far in the conference I realized even though I was more free from my past shame and guilt, I was still letting fear of man and people pleasing take the reigns too often in my daily life. This has been hindering me from stepping fully into the calling that God has on my life.

What I learned from the conference was beyond powerful, but it was in that quiet place this morning that God met me with a word that was just what I needed to hear to help me actually take steps to transform in my life.

I've been doing a deep-dive into Romans over the past couple of weeks. Today I specifically read Romans 7 and 8. It was Romans 8:15-17 that just came to life for me today, honestly in a way scripture never has before. I now know what someone means when they say Holy Spirit will make the scripture come to life and make scripture jump off of the page.

This passage of scripture leapt off the page and into my heart to heal my heart where I needed it to walk in true freedom from these new found fears.

"So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering." Romans 8:15-17 (NLT)

This truth is as a follower of Christ we are no longer bound to fear, death, sin...any of it. I am no longer bound to what others think about me or even say about me. And neither are you! We are not "fearful slaves." All of those fears, worries, and doubts are not from God.

God's Spirit, Holy Spirit, adopts us into His family. Because we are adopted, He becomes our "Abba, Father" which means we are "heirs of God's glory," just like Christ! This just really lit a fire inside of me and I pray it does for you too.

The truth God's Word is telling us here is that we are no longer slaves to the crippling bondage of fear...whatever way fear may manifest for you. Instead, we are heirs of God's glory! And now anytime we feel fearful of man, scared to step out in obedience, fearful of ANYTHING, we can cry out "Abba, Father" to remind us we are His child and are heir to His glory!

Anytime we feel fearful of man, scared to step out in obedience, fearful of ANYTHING, we can cry out "Abba, Father" to remind us we are His child and are heir to His glory!

We're right beside Jesus and Holy Spirit inside of us is the foretaste of God's glory that we get to experience here on Earth (Romans 8:23). Holy Spirit is what heals us and transforms us from the inside out.

I pray He transforms you today through this truth as He did me. ❤️🙏
